( Soooo... This is awkward for him. That's probably obvious in his voice when he speaks, but he's just going to rip the metaphorical bandage off here. )

Hey, Edelgard. It's Caspar.

( It takes a few seconds to continue, but he does manage to keep going. )

I know things didn't go over well last time we talked. I was hoping we could meet somewhere and talk. Clear the air, I guess.

I get it if you don't want to, though. But I'll be at this place in a few hours, if you wanna stop by.

( And there's a text with a picture of a little coffee shop near a book store. Neither are really his thing, but they're safe enough places, right? Right. )

Of course, Caspar. I'll be by soon.

[and it's caspar... ain't no way this man plannin' to ambush her.

she gets going immediately, mulling over what he wants to say and what she'll want to say. she wonders what sparked this conversation - did ashe say something? or perhaps it's merely his kind heart, and the dying frustration helped clear his mind? hmm...

when she sees him at the coffee shop - his bright shade of blue hair is hard to miss - she pulls out a chair and settles down.]

It's... good to see you, Caspar. You look happy.

( As much as Edelgard is an enemy back home, this place isn't a battlefield. There's no thought to hurt or ambush her. He knows he overreacted, and it isn't fair to stay mad at her for something out of her control. 

And honestly? He thought they were friends, once. Even if he changed to the Professor's class, he wants to think maybe in some way they still are friends. That's probably stupid on his part, he thinks. But they're both here and if they're not fighting... She deserves to have friends and companionship too, doesn't she?

He's busy reading the back of a box of what appears to be a make your own cat treats kit. He looks a little flustered as he reads over the instructions, but he's otherwise calm and surprisingly quiet when she arrives. Blinking, he sets the box down, looking over at her as she settles into the chair. )
 
Hey, Edelgard. Thanks for coming.

( His voice probably sounds a little uncomfortable. He's not sure if she's upset with him. )

Thanks. Things are kinda nice here. ( He pauses, looking her over curiously. ) You look good.

[they're certainly friends in the way only edelgard can be friends with people, really. this edelgard didn't learn the ~power of friendship~ - keenly noted in the way she allowed bernadetta to burn alive on the hilltop, if only to turn the tide of battle. she's learning, slowly, now however... to trust and open up.

she quirks an eyebrow at the book - she doesn't recall him ever picking one up in the past - had they grown that much apart? that she's surprised to see him simply reading?

Yes, I quite enjoy it here. I'm glad you have been as well.

[she folds her hands on top of the table. she's never been one to beat around the bush...]

( The book isn't for him - it's for Ashe. A gift he hopes they can share to take care of their cat.

But he sets it down quickly, watching her curiously as she folds her hands. )

Yeah, it's actually not that bad here. Some of the stuff is pretty cool, right?

( Still, her apology makes him frown, and his eyes cut away for a moment. He feels badly about the way he'd acted, and he knows now he'd made a big mistake.

He shakes his head quickly, looking back at her with an attempt at a small smile. He's not sure if it's working. )

No, I should be apologizing to you. It was a rough time when I arrived, and I was really worried about Mercedes. Or well, I guess I still am... ( He looks away again, reaching up to rub the back of his head. ) But I've learned a lot about these device things. I know sometimes things happen that aren't your fault. I'm sorry for overreacting.

[after reading the title, she smiles a little to herself, wondering if it was for a certain young man with a certain giant fat cat.]

It's quite all right- you didn't know, and you'd only just arrived. I understand. Of course I understand the brutality of the war I started.

[a beat as she mulls over her next words.]

And I understand, now, why you left the Black Eagles house. [she isn't sure if this was caspar's way of having The Talk with her as she had with almost everyone here, but she wants to get it out of the way.] I know it does not bring back the lives senselessly lost... but I've spoken with the professor.
