Hey, uh. Listen, it won't surprise me one bit if it turns out you don't remember who this is. From what I hear, you've most likely had about five years of other things on your mind, taking precedence over recalling some disgraced students and exiled riffraff from Abyss. If that's the case, I get it. And I know that means this might not mean anything to you, but it means something to me, so here goes.

I'd guess an imperial princess is probably more than capable of handling anything that the world throws at her, but...well, look. You helped me and mine out, once, when you didn't have to but you did. So I guess just know that I'm not the kind of man who lets debts like those go unsettled. That's all.

I appreciate the thought, truly. I don't consider it a debt unpaid, but if you do I suppose I can't stop you. But I ask you to hold your judgment of me until after that five years, Balthus. I don't want you to misunderstand me based on actions from five years prior.

Oh, I've heard some talk about what I'm in for, in the years to come. Reliable sources tell me it's pretty much a world torn apart at the seams, and everyone fighting to decide who gets to put it back together again.

Still, there's a third way I can judge you, you realize. Not my past and not my future. Just my present, right now and right here.

Being here in this place isn't something any of us could've anticipated, I don't think. I'm curious to know what you've been doing with it.

Thank you, I appreciate the sentiment, truly. I'm learning to live in the present myself - as I've been looking ever forward for so long.

I suppose I've merely been living the life I've never had back in our world. Eating delicious food, going shopping - things of that nature. They seem frivolous compared to what I've been up to.

But I suppose death has changed my perspective on things.

Of course, what that says to me is that all the things you did back in Fodlan, something about it was all exclusive to Fodlan. Not conquest for the sake of conquest, or you'd be out trying to tear this place apart, too. 'Course, maybe you are and you're just smart enough not to fess up to it in a casual conversation with a guy like me, so who knows, really.

But I do think there's something to it, that idea that...we're different people, here. Everybody started out with a blank slate, and that lifted some people up and tore others down, but we all got left on the same footing because of it.

That's why I think it matters what a person does with it, once they get here. Because for once, we're all starting from zero.

I suppose there is truth in that. I've met people who do not know who I am and what I've done, and that has been somewhat freeing in a way. Back in Adrestia, such a thing was impossible.

I don't think you're a man that does things for an underlying motive, Balthus. But I am curious what you hoped to achieve with this discussion. To extend the branch of peace between you and I?

Hah, well, then you're thinking right. I've never really been one for big ambitions. Hell, half the time I wasn't even sure I'd be around to see the next sunrise, much less scheming what I'd be doing months or years down the line.

But no, this isn't about making peace; I'll leave that to you house leaders and ambassadors. I just wanted to say thanks for what you did for the Ashen Wolves, is all.

Well, and to talk to you, honestly. I get the feeling not many people do that for you — just talk to you, person to person.
